Baseball Season Essentials

By: Megan Sheinfeld

Baseball season is now in full swing and it’s time to gear up for evening practices, games and weekend tournaments. Although there are many families who are seasoned veterans when it comes to the whirlwind world of organized sports, there are always new members looking for some friendly advice! Here are a few helpful hints to ensure that your season gets off on the right foot…

There are some staples that should remain in the car for the duration of the season. Often when we’re running out the door to make a game on time, we forget to prepare for whatever the weather has in store for us.

  • comfortable lawn seats
  • blanket
  • rain gear/hooded sweatshirt
  • extra bottles of water
  • umbrella

When it comes to our ball players, a tote bag is a great tool to have for any additions that don’t always fit into their equipment bags and to simply have for yourself or any other family members that join you. Just remember to bring your bag in after every game and practice to replenish as needed. Some great extras might include…

  • bug spray (for fields within close proximity to a wooded area)
  • sunscreen
  • snacks
  • wet wipes
  • extra hats
  • sunglasses
  • water bottle
  • tissues
  • band aids

Be sure to add your coaches contact information into your cellphone in case you’re on the road and not sure which field you’re going to. Over the course of the season, you will become fast friends with all of the parents on the team and exchanging numbers for carpooling can also help if you’re in a logistical jam!

Preparation is key to surviving the season. Hopefully these tips and tricks will help ensure you’re covered for whatever gets thrown your way!
